The DNA tests of the two Virginia Whitmores in Group 7 have researched lines, with one ancestor born in 1794 and the other in 1799, both in the same area of SE Virginia inhabited by earlier Whitmores. Both tested men have family stories that mention Scots ancestry. One has been SNP tested as Haplogroup R1b1b2a1b5. (Alexander is positive for R L21.) We welcome anyone else with Whitmore records dating to the mid or late 1700's in SE Virginia to get in touch! Maggie Hodge can be reached at gensearch.mgh@gmail.com. Note: The first Whitmore name in SE Virginia is found in 1619. Robert Whitmore was an apprentice, growing tobacco, who survived and is listed in the 1625 censu. A Joseph Whitmoald is referenced by Boddie as being found in a 1659 record at Surry County Courthouse. A Nicholas Whitmore lived in Prince George County (which was formed from Surry in 1634). He married in 1678 and died in 1718 in Prince George and had two surviving sons. The Whitmore name continues in the area to the present day, consistently spelled the same way. However, so far there is no proof of relatedness of the earliest Whitmores to those tested in Group 7. In fact, I have found only one other Whitmore researcher for SE Virginia has been found, and that line does appear rather closely related to my line. We look forward to finding new Virginia Whitmores interested in DNA testing - and research! 67+ Markers list for participants.
